BALTIMORE, Md. Dan Cox, the Republican nominee for governor, volunteered at Our Daily Bread Employment Center in Baltimore on Monday, the day before Election Day, his campaign said in a news release.
Cox joined a community effort to serve people experiencing homelessness at the center, which provides meals and other support, according to the release. The campaign said the visit was meant to bring attention to the challenges facing some of the city’s most vulnerable residents.
“Making a difference begins with showing up,” Cox said in the release. The campaign said leadership is about more than public office or political differences, and that no one should be forgotten. The release also praised Our Daily Bread for its work providing meals, resources and support to people facing homelessness and hardship across Baltimore.
He was not there alone. The Maryland Black Republican Council said in a Facebook post that Cox, running mate Rob Krop, Chikongola Linton and Domonic Martin joined council members in serving meals. Martin is the Republican nominee for the House of Delegates in District 44B, and Linton, who also goes by Chuck, is the Republican nominee in District 44A, both in Baltimore County, according to the State Board of Elections. Linton, of Catonsville, is a Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart recipient.

Maryland voters go to the polls Tuesday, when Cox faces Democratic Gov. Wes Moore in a rematch of their 2022 race.
What Our Daily Bread does
Our Daily Bread is a program of Catholic Charities of Baltimore, based at 725 Fallsway.
- Catholic Charities calls it Maryland’s largest hot meal program, serving more than a quarter million meals a year to people experiencing hunger in Baltimore City.
- The hot meal program opened on West Franklin Street in 1981, according to a 1990 Baltimore Sun item, and has served Baltimore for more than four decades.
- The Employment Center also offers case management, job training, and employment counseling.
Political leaders have served meals there before. Then-Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, and Comptroller Peter Franchot, a Democrat, volunteered at the center on Nov. 24, 2015, the Catholic Review reported.
