Corrections Policy

Corrections Policy

Maryland Bay News is committed to accuracy, transparency, and accountability. When we make mistakes, we correct them promptly and clearly so readers can trust the integrity of our reporting and commentary.

1. Our Commitment to Accuracy

We strive for factual precision in all published material — news, investigations, commentary, and multimedia.
If an error of fact, interpretation, attribution, or context is identified, we will correct it.

2. Requesting a Correction

Readers may request corrections by emailing:
editor@mdbaynews.com

Please include:

  • A link to the article
  • The passage you believe is incorrect
  • Supporting evidence
  • Your name and contact information (not for publication)

Requests will be reviewed promptly.

3. Types of Corrections

Factual Corrections

Errors involving misstatements of fact, data, names, dates, or quotes.

Clarifications

Used when content is accurate but may have caused misunderstanding or requires additional context.

Updates

Applied when new information materially changes the context or relevance of a story.

Retractions

Reserved for rare cases where an article is found to have fundamental reporting flaws that cannot be corrected through revisions.

4. How We Publish Corrections

Corrections appear:

  • At the bottom of the article or
  • At the top for significant errors

They are labeled clearly as “Correction,” “Clarification,” or “Update,” along with the date.

We do not remove content or alter text silently.

5. Corrections in Opinion Pieces

Opinion writers may present arguments, but factual claims must be accurate.
If a factual error appears in:

  • a Letter to the Editor
  • guest commentary
  • columnist piece

we will correct it and add a note indicating the change.

6. Social Media Corrections

If an article containing a significant error has been shared on social media, we will post a correction or updated link on relevant platforms.

7. Transparency and Accountability

Maryland Bay News will maintain a culture where corrections are encouraged, not resisted. Mistakes are corrected openly and without delay.
