Hagerstown, Md. — Photos obtained exclusively by MDBayNews show former U.S. Rep. David Trone surrounded by at least six uniformed police officers during today’s “No Kings” protest in Hagerstown’s Public Square.
One image, taken from behind Trone’s group, captures a heavy police presence as demonstrators held “NO KINGS” signs and moved through the downtown street. A second photo shows Trone — identifiable by his white hair — interacting with supporters while a man in a blue jacket stands close by with a visible earpiece in his left ear.
The images were sent to MDBayNews by a source who said they came directly from Democratic congressional candidate Ethan Wechtaluk. Wechtaluk, who is challenging Trone and Rep. April McClain Delaney in the June 23, 2026, Democratic primary for Maryland’s 6th District. It was also reported that Trone was heckled by the name “Data Center Dave” during the event.
Trone, who represented MD-6 from 2019 to 2025 and ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate, is actively campaigning to win the seat back. He publicly promoted his appearance at the Hagerstown “No Kings” rally on social media earlier today.

The irony was not lost on observers.
The “No Kings” protests are national demonstrations against concentrated power and authoritarianism. Yet Trone — now a private citizen and candidate, not a sitting member of Congress — appeared with what the source described as a personal security detail and a visible squadron of police.
The source noted that no other individuals or groups at the rally appeared to have similar police protection. They also pointed out Trone’s widely known past practice of hiring off-duty Montgomery County police for security and traffic control at Bullis School (where Trone has been involved). It is unclear whether today’s officers were on official duty, working general crowd control, or privately hired.
“Data Center Dave” and local voter frustration
The heckling nickname “Data Center Dave” points to ongoing controversy over data-center development in the 6th District, particularly in Frederick County. Trone and his family have donated tens of thousands of dollars to key Frederick County Democrats — including more than $42,000 to County Executive Jessica Fitzwater and $12,000 to Council President Brad Young — who have supported expanded data-center zoning.
Wechtaluk has positioned his campaign as a populist challenge to big-money politics in the district.

MDBayNews has reached out to the Trone campaign for comment on the police presence, the reported heckling, and any private security arrangements. We also contacted Wechtaluk for confirmation and additional details. This story will be updated as responses are received.
