ANNAPOLIS — A coalition of election integrity advocates and conservative lawmakers is set to rally in the state capital next week as momentum builds behind a proposed package of election security reforms.

Secure the Vote MD announced Tuesday that it will host a Secure the Vote Act 2026 Lobby Day on Tuesday, January 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Lawyers Mall in Annapolis. Organizers say the event is designed to rally public support for legislation they argue is necessary to restore confidence in Maryland’s election system.

The effort is being advanced in coordination with the Maryland Freedom Caucus, which plans to introduce the Secure the Vote Act of 2026 during the current General Assembly session.

Claims of voter roll inaccuracies

According to Secure the Vote MD, its volunteers and data analysts have identified more than 236,000 alleged voter registration violations across the state, pointing to what the group describes as bloated and inaccurate voter rolls. Organizers argue that such discrepancies—whether caused by outdated records, duplicate registrations, or failures to remove ineligible voters—undermine public trust, even when no fraud is alleged.

The group has cited individual cases, including the often-referenced “Ian Roberts” example, as illustrations of systemic weaknesses in voter roll maintenance.

Maryland election officials have long maintained that the state complies with federal voter registration laws and regularly updates its rolls. Still, critics say the process lacks sufficient transparency and independent verification.

What the Secure the Vote Act would do

Supporters describe the Secure the Vote Act of 2026 as a comprehensive election integrity package focused on three core pillars:

  • Voter ID requirements
  • Verification of U.S. citizenship for voter registration
  • A renewed emphasis on in-person voting

Backers frame the proposal as a set of “common-sense safeguards,” arguing that similar measures already exist in many other states and are broadly supported by voters across party lines.

“Secure elections are not a partisan issue,” organizers said in a statement. “They are a prerequisite for a healthy democracy.”

Lobby Day aims to pressure lawmakers

Tuesday’s rally is intended to give constituents a chance to hear directly from bill sponsors, engage lawmakers face-to-face, and visibly demonstrate public support for election security reforms. Participants are encouraged to meet with delegates and senators throughout the morning.

The event comes amid renewed national debate over voter ID laws, mail-in voting, and the balance between access and security—an issue that continues to animate grassroots activism on both the left and the right.

A growing national network

Secure the Vote MD says its work is supported by a mix of local volunteers and national partners, including United Sovereign Americans. The group says it works with local boards of elections to flag potential irregularities and press for legally required corrections.

Whether the Secure the Vote Act gains traction in a heavily Democratic General Assembly remains an open question. But Tuesday’s rally signals that election integrity will remain a live—and contentious—issue in Maryland politics as the 2026 elections approach.
