Gov. Wes Moore has taken to X again to declare himself Maryland’s fearless provider-in-chief:
“In the face of this cruel government shutdown… I’ve signed an executive order releasing $62 million to help Marylanders who rely on SNAP benefits.”
Powerful stuff. Poetic, even. Almost makes you forget this is the second time in a week that Marylanders have gone without the food assistance they’re supposed to receive automatically.
Last week, Moore celebrated a “victory” over the Trump Administration in court — and then hundreds of thousands of Maryland families woke up to $0 in SNAP funds anyway. But no worries. The Governor swooped in, cameras rolling, to announce $10 million for food banks, so his political allies could hand out canned goods in front of news crews.

Now we’re at $62 million to “fix” the exact same problem.
Circle of life. Maryland style. 🦫💸
The Political Math is the Only Thing That Adds Up
Let’s summarize:
| Action | Beneficiary |
|---|---|
| Court “victory” announced | Gov. Moore’s press team |
| SNAP failure hits | Maryland families |
| $10M given to food bank partners | Moore-aligned nonprofits & photo ops |
| Shutdown continues | Moore blames Trump — not Md.’s congressional delegation |
| $62M released | Moore takes another victory lap |
A cynical observer might notice that nothing works until Moore gets credit for fixing it.
But don’t worry — there’s always a podium nearby.
Big Government Logic:
Free trains for federal workers still receiving paychecks ✅
SNAP families told to go stand in line for a press conference ✅
Governor announces relief from the relief that never relieved ✅

Imagine being a single parent who budgets every dollar, waiting for the 1st of the month — only to be told:
“Oops, but here’s a news camera and a can of green beans.”
Because as we all know:
If there’s no televised empathy, did the Governor even care?
Let’s Be Clear: This Isn’t Compassion.
It’s competence failure.
Not a partisan bogeyman.
Not a villain in Washington.
Not a shutdown ghost.
If SNAP didn’t pay out after Maryland already sued and “won”…
The issue isn’t political rhetoric — it’s management.
And the bill for that incompetence?
It’s paid by Maryland families who can’t afford to miss a meal.

Marylanders Deserve Better Than Breadline Theater
In a functioning system:
- SNAP payments arrive on time
- Government workers don’t need free perks to show up
- Food banks help emergencies, not policy failures
But Moore’s Maryland seems to operate on a new guiding principle:
First, create the crisis.
Then declare yourself the hero.
For Moore, the only thing that must be fed is the narrative.
A Final Thought
If this is what “fighting for Marylanders” looks like…
What does surrender look like?
