Wes Moore: Maryland’s Photo-Op Governor or Just Another Selfie Politician?By The Thunder Report – Right of Center Commentary

By Michael Phillips

Governor Wes Moore has mastered one thing since taking office: the camera angle.

Whether it’s rubbing elbows at national Democratic fundraisers, jogging with celebrities, or holding carefully staged “listening sessions,” Moore’s social media feeds are brimming with smiling selfies and sleek video clips. He’s everywhere—except where struggling Marylanders actually need him.

Moore’s Travel Blog, Not a Roadmap for Maryland

From day one, Moore has been more focused on his image than on substance. He’s turned the Governor’s Office into a traveling PR campaign, appearing in D.C., New York, and California more frequently than in Western Maryland or the Eastern Shore. While the governor books flights and strikes poses, residents are watching their roads crumble, their taxes rise, and their neighborhoods fall apart.

He’s even turned the Maryland state Twitter feed into a virtual highlight reel. But if Marylanders wanted to elect a lifestyle influencer, they’d go to Instagram.

What Has Wes Moore Actually Done for Maryland?

Let’s take stock:

  • Affordability Crisis: Marylanders face skyrocketing property taxes, utility fees, and insurance premiums. Moore’s response? Lip service. Rent continues to rise, and so does the exodus of middle-class families who just can’t afford to live here anymore.
  • Infrastructure Neglect: While Moore chases climate headlines and equity buzzwords, the basic infrastructure continues to rot. Roads go unrepaired. Transit projects stall. Baltimore’s water system remains a ticking time bomb.
  • Crime and Public Safety: Violent crime in urban areas, especially Baltimore, continues at unacceptable levels. Moore’s team pushes “community investment” and “reform” talking points while downplaying real law enforcement support. Residents don’t feel safe, and they’re tired of the gaslighting.
  • Education Deficit: Despite record budgets, outcomes in many school districts remain stagnant. Schools lack heating in the winter and working A/C in the summer. But sure, let’s keep handing money to administrators with no accountability.
  • Taxpayer Burden: Moore loves to align with Biden’s federal vision, and with good reason—Maryland taxpayers are holding their breath, hoping for federal tax relief just to survive. Without it, the state becomes even more unaffordable for working families.

Style Over Substance Isn’t Governance

Moore’s narrative of inspiration and firsts may be compelling, but Marylanders need more than speeches and stylized photos. Leadership means showing up—physically, consistently, and with tangible results. Not just for ribbon-cuttings or campaign stops, but for the hard, unglamorous work of governing.

Instead, we have a governor who’s more interested in making national headlines than making Maryland work again.

He’s eyeing the national stage while Maryland burns through cash, patience, and opportunity.

Time to Ask the Real Question: Is Wes Moore Building a Better Maryland—Or Just His Brand?

Because right now, it seems like the only thing growing in this state is his portfolio of filtered selfies.
